I love to crochet!

I am so enjoying my new hobby (obviously.) :) Here's my newest scarf. This one's for Brad.
I can't believe I forgot to mention on here that we're under contract on a house! It's a two-story, five bedroom house. We know it's going to meet our needs for a long time. The inspection is on Friday. Pending that that goes well, we'll be closing the day after Thanksgiving!

Happy Birthday, Catie and Nick!

Yesterday was Catie and Nick's 3rd birthday. I had big plans for a fun day, but they both have bad coughs so I decided it was best to spend the morning at home.

After naps when Daddy came home, we revealed their big gifts, two giant stuffed animals from us and a spring horse from Grandma and Grandpa Herzog. (Remember my side of the family had a party last month.)

Brad and I have been craving mediocre pizza and crazy children, so we went to Chuck E Cheese. (Just kidding--most of the time I enjoy Chuck E Cheese almost as much as the kids.)

When we got home we enjoyed some cake and ice cream. (I bought this cake from Walmart and I'm not ashamed to say that a major part of my decision was the cool platter it's on.)
Grandma and Grandpa also sent cowboy and girl outfits for them to wear on their new horse. Catie wanted to wear it all night.
Nick started out delicately eating his icing with a fork.

But soon, he looked like this. (Sorry for the out of focus picture. I couldn't get him to look up from the cupcake.)

In other news, the people wouldn't budge on their house price, and we're just too far apart. (The comps are on our side.) So, we're going to look at another house for a second time this morning and probably make an offer on it today.

I've finished another scarf, this time one for me. This one is the most complicated I've made so far. I'm really proud of how straight and even it is. Brad's is next!

Nervous Energy

We put an offer on a house this morning. Now we wait....

Good thing I have a new hobby to take my mind off things. :) Here's Catie's scarf. I made it yesterday in three hours!

Temporary

I thought I'd share some pictures of our apartment here.

This is the train set that Brad bought for Nicky so that he'd have something to play with here.
This is the playroom. Brad bought Catie the playhouse. You want to know why the playhouse was affordable? Because it costs just as much or more to buy all the accessory pieces. Ugh! Catie's satisfied with the ones that came with the house for now, though. Maybe Christmas...
How did we end up with a playroom in a 2 bedroom apartment? Okay, don't call DCFS; it's a really big closet. And, we put a CO detector in there too.
Here's the living room with the $150 couch, chairs, and bench I found on Craigslist.

This is the biggest kitchen I've had in a long time. Unfortunately, with most of our stuff in storage until we buy a house, we're not using it to it's full potential.

Here's Catie looking cute. :)

So, that's pretty much it, except our bedroom, which is a mess, and the bathroom, which I couldn't bring myself to take a picture of. That's all I'm planning to do, too, to make this place "home." So, I was wondering what I was going to do to occupy my time, since it doesn't take much to clean the apartment and I'm not going to do any decorating, then I found a book about teaching yourself to crochet at Michael's. My Grandma Phelps loves to crochet, and I've thought about learning before. I figured this was the perfect time. So, with the help of the book and a few videos on YouTube, this is what I've come up with in three days:
It's a little wonky in places, but I think it's not half bad for my first try. I figured Nicky won't care. I'm going to get some more yarn soon to make one for Catie. :)

Finding Home

Well, I've been in Richland for 6 days, and I feel like I'm already starting to find my place here. First of all, praise the Lord for internet. Isn't it wonderful? I felt so disconnected. (Pun intended.)

On Tuesday morning, I joined a Bible study at the church that Brad picked out. I think he made an excellent choice, and I know I'm going to enjoy the Bible study group. There are about 250 ladies who attend, and then we split up into small groups. I love it!

We've been out with the realtor twice this week looking at houses, and I think we've found "the one." It's a rambler with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. We love the layout and the backyard. The only drawback is the flooring, but we think if we can get it for the price we want we'll just replace it all right away. We're getting very excited about that!

This morning we had the twins with us when we were house hunting, so during lunch we were talking about the different houses, and I asked Catie which one was her favorite. "Grandma's house," she said. Too cute!

Pictures with my parents

Isn't he the cutest? He's 4 months old already!
Caught a great pose in the midst of their playing.

All together. Isn't this sweet?

A closer look at the tent

I had a couple questions about the tent and a friend who was looking for the pattern. So, since I love this kind of thing, I took some more pictures and some measurements. Obviously this is just a rough sketch and you'll need to add seam allowances to the measurements. Click on the pictures for a closer look. Thanks again, Emily!

You gotta see this tent Emily made!

An early birthday party

The day started with a charity walk. Mom and I took the twins in the strollers and walked 2 1/2 miles to support The Bridge. Afterword, we picked Dad up and met Andy and Jenny at Portrait Innovations for a photo session with the grandparents and grandkids. I'll post those as soon as I figure out where the pictures went when I downloaded them to my computer.

Let the celebration begin! We went to The Rainforest Cafe for expensive cheeseburgers (veggie for Andy and Jen, of course.) Grandpa got lots of hugs from Catie when the gorillas started making noise. Nick thought it was so much fun! He was fascinated by all the animals. But not too fascinated to eat 4 chicken nuggets, an adult-sized portion of fries, AND his complimentary 2 scoop birthday sundae.

After a nap, Nick and Catie woke up to a birthday party! I chose a Sesame Street theme, which they loved. (The next day, when I got Nick up, he immediately asked for a birthday party.) My cousin Ethan and his wife Emily came with their nephew who is just a couple months older than Catie and Nick. We were disappointed that Grandpa and Grandma Herzog weren't able to come, though.

For dinner we had homemade pizza and salad. And for dessert we had cake, ice cream, and brownie bites. Yum!

Catie and Nick got some great presents including fun socks, a remote controlled Lightening McQueen car, princess dolls, puzzles, cute outfits, and a handmade tent (made by Emily.)

The twins are going to be disappointed when they find out that birthdays usually only come once a year!
